Job Summary
The Aerospace Vehicle Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of final spacecraft integration, MLI installations, and test. The ideal candidate will work on released work instructions of assembly, test and launch operations of space vehicles. This role will require the ability to work the first or second shift depending on business needs.
This position's internal job code is AEROTECH. Our team is currently hiring for Grade 24.
Responsibilities
• Work from preliminary design drawings, sketches, blueprints, schematics, oral and written instructions. Interpret the most appropriate method to correlate design and method to meet laboratory and production requirements.
• Perform assembly and integration operations to precise tolerances requiring interpretation and application of experience to determine the most appropriate method to meet engineering requirements and specifications.
• Operate specially designed equipment during space vehicle assembly, such as hydraulic test console, cooling system test console, alignment fixtures and unit installation fixtures.
• Determine the sequence of operations and installs equipment in the space vehicle prior to testing. Prepare space vehicles for test by installing all component units; perform the complete system leak and pressure check of the total vehicle, and the alignment check of all control surfaces.
• Handle fragile multi-layer insulation films and materials.
• Perform MLI and SLI installation onto test and flight articles.
• Assist engineers and research assistants in determining improved procedures and perform specific duties at assigned test stations. Record and reduce test data and prepare reports, charts, and graphs.
• Acquire necessary certifications, with minimal supervision, perform incidental related duties, and rework of the same nature and level of difficulty.
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of applicable material and process specifications.
• Provide instruction, direction, and/or assistance to personnel in same or other related classifications.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience with mechanical principles are required.
• Support range operations through tests, integration, and hardware moves.
• Operate computer-controlled processing equipment for heated tools, ovens, positioners, alignment equipment, rolling stock, lift equipment, cranes, and hand and power tools.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical assembly on high reliability products (preferably aerospace products)
• Experience building and terminating wiring harnesses to a high quality for racks and boxes.
• 1+ year of MLI/thermal blanket experience
• Experience using a variety of hand-tools: Scalpels, scissors, hollow punches, etc.
• Experience interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, harness wiring diagrams, internal and external specifications
• Experience using inspection tooling (e.g. calipers, micrometers, DMM, depth gauges, etc.)
• Experience with assembly tooling and/or composites fabrication and assembly
• Experience with using various hand and power tools
• Experience mixing epoxy materials
Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of Integration experience• Certification to J-STD-001 space, NASA.STD.8739.4
• Industry certification and/or Trade School training
• Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Experience working in a clean room environment
• Ability to generate discrepancy reports as they occur in areas of influence
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Open to travel
• Active Security Clearance

Summary Pay-Range
- Grade 24: $27.32/hr - $43.73/hr
