Job Summary As a Senior Spacecraft Harness Design Engineer, you will work with a small team on exciting and fast paced space programs. We are looking for talented individuals who can manage complex interfaces and are willing to innovate. In this role you will have opportunities to act as a design engineer, a test engineer, a manufacturing engineer, and a systems engineer for the harness subsystems of multiple satellites. From proposal creation to designing schematics to working hands on in the harness lab to watching a satellite being pushed onto a truck and taken to the launch site, you’ll have a hand in it all.
Plan and track signal interconnections between components
Generate harness schematic drawings in Microsoft Visio or Zuken E3
Determine appropriate materials usage (e.g. connectors, backshells, contacts, etc) and wire treatment (shielding, twisting, etc) to apply per applicable satellite mission requirements, industry standards, and Millennium Space Systems standards
Prepare harness assembly instructions to be used by harness assembly technicians
Coordinate with harness assembly technicians during assembly process
Plan and execute harness test procedures
Coordinate with satellite assembly engineers during satellite build and test
Assist in proposal and business development efforts
Brief design and analysis materials to program managers, customers, and/or sponsors
Assist with creating, maintaining, or updating harness design, assembly, and test standards
Mentor junior team members on the technical aspects of harness design
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar major
Methodical electrical design, testing, and troubleshooting capabilities
Ability to create detail-oriented designs while not losing sight of the higher-level design needs
Must be versatile and able to perform and manage multiple tasks concurrently
Minimum of 8 years of directly relevant harness experience
Detailed and hands-on knowledge of harness fabrication and workmanship criteria/standards
Knowledge of connectors for wire harness applications
Ability to create/revise technical documents
Experience leading harness teams in a fast-paced engineering environment
Experience with satellite programs and a variety of satellite busses
Familiarity with programming languages like Python, C or C++, MATLAB, etc
Experience with early life-cycle satellite engineering activities, spacecraft integration and test, and launch operations
Experience with automotive manufacturing or other high-production environments
Knowledge of connectors for spaceflight applications (MIL-C-D38999, MIL-83513, GSFC 311P407, GSFC 311P409, etc)
