Thermal MLI Blanket Technician

JOB SUMMARY

As a Thermal MLI Blanket Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the development, fabrication, and installation of MLI (Multi-Layer Insulation) blankets and other thermal protection systems. Your work will ensure that our space vehicles survive their complete development and operational lifecycles, including test, launch, initialization, and long-term operations. You will work closely with a variety of engineering specialties including thermal, structures, and integration. As part of the MLI team, you will help to establish the standard operating practices and requirements at Millennium for blanket development. Additional responsibilities may include supporting other development teams at Millennium that are in line with your engineering talents, experience, and/or interests.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop MLI requirements for flight programs
  • Identify all materials, processes, and facilities necessary to successfully implement an MLI plan
  • Produce technical documentation of the designed assembly
  • Work with other engineers to meet all spacecraft design requirements
  • Work with Computer Aided Design tools to develop initial concepts and templates
  • Support the MLI activities of templating, cutting, assembling, sewing, and fit checks
  • Support final blanket installation in a cleanroom environment
  • Support on-site repairs and modifications
  • Support periodic reviews by internal team and/or external customers
  • Assist in proposal activities and new business development
  • Work with consultants, contractors, and/or vendors when necessary
  • Support other engineering disciplines for space vehicle design/fabrication (e.g. thermal, structures, testing, integration) during non-peak periods

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years in mechanical assembly experience on high reliability products; OR Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or other relevant fields
  • Experience working in a laboratory or manufacturing/assembly environment
  • Experience creating, reading, and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Proficiency with CAD (Solidworks preferred)
  • Frequent standing, sitting, stopping, kneeling, crawling, and squatting is required
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs to transfer or move tools, parts, equipment, containers, and materials
  • Limited travel might be required to support test or launch activities
  • Ability to work both as a part of a team and independently
