Entry Level Optical Technician/Scientist
As an Entry Level Optical Technician/Scientist, you will perform assist in the alignment and characterization of electro-optical space sensors. Tasks include running an optical test laboratory, and performing tests on star trackers, EO cameras, telescopes, surface scatter measurements, stray light, radiometric measurements, and detectors. This is an ideal job for an entry level physicist or engineer with a background in astronomy, physics, optics, electronics, and/or computer programming with a strong inclination towards laboratory measurement and testing. You will equip the laboratory, maintain the equipment, develop data acquisition and analysis software, and conduct critical measurements. You will also assist in the development of prototype sensor systems.
Job responsibilities include:
Manage the optical test laboratory, procure needed equipment, learn how to operate the equipment and develop a thorough understanding of equipment capability, precision, and accuracy. Ensure calibration traceability. Assist in the development of perceptive tests as needed by internal projects, document test procedures, and conduct tests as required, analyze data, and write test reports. Ensure the safety of space flight components. Help to determine future equipment needs, and to prepare capital budget requests. Develop Labview or similar code to automate the operation of laboratory equipment. Develop Matlab, or similar code, to automate the analysis of test data. Develop formats and templates for test procedures and test reports.
