Payload Integration Lead Engineer

Job Summary

As a payload integration lead, you will be responsible for the developing and verifying the requirements and interfaces between a mission payload and a space vehicle system. You will be the primary liaison between the payload developer and the space vehicle, ensure that the space vehicle and mission assurance requirements are flowed to the payload requirements, and that mission requirements are allocated between payload and the space vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a Liaison between payload and space craft team to ensure all requirements are met
  • Ensure payload and spacecraft requirements are compatible with high level mission requirements and CONOPS
  • Ensure compliance of payload with all mission assurance and customer requirements
  • Perform thorough technical assessments of all proposed internal and external payload interface requirements
  • Responsible for the interface control documentation between payload and spacecraft, across all pertinent technical disciplines (mechanical, thermal, electrical, data, optical, RF, etc.)
  • Lead problem solving teams in support of the successful integration of the payload
  • Travel up to 15% of the time in order to visit on-site technical teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or related major
  • Direct experience with space payloads and/or space vehicle development
  • 5 or more years’ experience working with space vehicle payloads and/or space vehicles
  • Previous experience with integrating optical and/or RF payloads into space vehicles
  • Mission level insight as to how payloads are to operate
  • Experience in writing test plans and procedures
  • Experience with the physical integration of payloads
  • Posses an active security clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with the following:
    • Writing space vehicle interface control documentation
    • Verifications of payload requirements
    • Electrical and mechanical unit integration
    • Mission launch operations
